The Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe will serve as one of two sites in the Diocese of Orlando for the veneration of the relics of St. Maria Goretti on Friday, October 30 from 10:00 a.m. until midnight. Mass will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. on October 30 and the Sacrament of Penance will be offered beginning at 10:00 a.m. The major relics of St. Maria Goretti are brought forth as a “Pilgrimage of Mercy,” and it is the first time that her body is travelling to the United States.
About St. Maria Goretti:
- She died on July 6, 1902, at the age of 11, after being stabbed 14 times in an attempted rape. She forgave her assailant before death.
- On June 24, 1950, Pope Pius XII canonized Maria as a saint.
- She is the patron saint of Youth and Rape Victims

The relics will also be at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 5 S.E. 17th Street, Ocala, FL on Thursday, October 29, 2015. Veneration begins at 10:00 a.m., the time of the Mass is at 7:00 p.m., and the Veneration ends at 5:00 a.m. on Friday.
