We are in the middle of the liturgical season of Ordinary Time. I’ve been reflecting lately on the ordinariness of our communal life in Christ. These reflections were sparked by Paulist Father Frank DeSiano’s comments during a recent webinar about evangelization. Fr. Frank said that parish life forms us in discipleship, empowers us to care for the neglected and reconciles us to community. How extraordinarily ordinary is that? Our Catholic practice of infant baptism is part of our ordinary parish life. This week, we feature an excellent resource produced by the Diocese of Rockville Centre in 2009 entitled: “One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism: An Introduction to Infant Baptism in the Roman Catholic Church.” With seven short chapters, this 27 minute DVD explores parents’ preparation for the sacrament, each stage of the ritual, faith formation within the family and our communal reality as church. The format weaves straightforward catechetical teaching by a diocesan priest, with compelling commentary by a culturally diverse set of three couples. From his opening statement dispelling baptism as a one-time event to explanations of the two anointing rituals and the parental responsibility to pray with their children, Fr. Nick Zientarski offers authoritative teaching in a welcoming manner. The three couples open their faith lives through affectionate and affirming conversation. These are people we know in church community! Order this title from the Media Resource Center @ click here or call Dan Hardester or Diane Gallagher@ 407-246-4895 (or 4897).
