During the month of October, Catholics throughout the United States observe Respect Life Month. Pope Benedict XVI expressed this year’s theme: “Faith opens our eyes to human life in all its grandeur and beauty.” This week, we feature National Geographic’s “The Biology of Prenatal Development.” Blending imagery from several visual technologies, we watch human growth from conception to the somersaulting eight-week old and the hand-grasping thirty-five week old. We can be moved to tears at twenty-six weeks! I learned that my taste for licorice began with my sharing the tasty treat with my mom before birth. This forty-two minute DVD has forty-six chapters. Select “The Heart in Action,” “Brain Growth” or “Rolling Over” and watch captivating video accompanied by informative narration and reflective Celtic music. After my viewing, I remain at a loss for words. Fortunately, the poet, William Blake composed exactly the right ones: “What is now proved was once only imagined.” Download the PDF text of the program in English, Spanish or French. Select Spanish or French subtitles. Order “The Biology of Prenatal Development” from the Media Resource Center by email to mediacenter@orlandodiocese.org or call Dan Hardester or Diane Gallagher@ 407-246-4895 (or 4897) for assistance. (Dan Hardester serves as Secretary of the Evangelization Secretariat and Director of the Media Center.)
