General Information about Mission Trips

Thank you for your interest in serving as a missioner for the Diocese of Orlando. You are taking the first step of what is expected to be a life-changing and life-affirming experience. On this page you will learn about the mission trips scheduled for this year and the requirements for serving as a missioner.

The Diocese of Orlando requires that all Missioners submit to and pass the FBI background check (through the diocese) and successfully complete the online Safe Environment Training (SET) before applying for a Mission Trip. The fee for this is not included in the fee for the Mission Trip. If you have successfully completed this requirement to work in ministry in your parish in the Diocese of Orlando, indicate that on the application and it will be checked by the fingerprint office. This clearance is good for five years.

Please call the Mission Office with questions (407) 246-4890. A valid passport is required to make the trip. All returning missioners must completely fill out a new application for each trip and meet current diocesan requirements. All missioners, new and returning, must attend the required mission orientation.

Cost of Mission

The cost of the Trip is $750 plus you purchase your own airline ticket using the Mission Office guidelines relating to arrival and departure times. Do not purchase the ticket until you have met the requirements (passed Diocesan FBI background check, SET, and submitted fully completed application, notarized volunteer agreement and legible copy of current pasport). If you purchase in advance and do not meet the diocesan requirements, you will not be compensated for the ticket. When you are cleared to purchase a ticket, please do so immediately, using only the airlines and flight authorized by the Mission Office. Please send a copy of your flight itinerary to the Mission Office by the respective due date. Checks made out to the Diocese of Orlando—(Mission Office). On the notation, please put Mission Trip with the dates of the trip. The deposit is $150 and is due with the application.
