“I am the servant of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Luke 1:38
What is World Youth Day?
World Youth Day (WYD) is a gathering of young people from around the globe to celebrate Jesus Christ. It is a life-changing opportunity to gather, to pilgrimage, and to experience the universal Church through prayer, catechesis, and personal encounter. This year’s theme is from the first chapter of Luke: “I am the servant of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.”
When is World Youth Day?
The international celebration of WYD will occur in Panama on January 22-27, 2019. The Orlando Delegation will be traveling from January 19-28, 2019.
Why is it in January this time?
In previous years, World Youth Day took place in the summer. Why will WYD 2019 be in January instead of during the summer? Since Panama sits very near the equator, the summer is especially hot and is also their rainy season. January is the dry season, but is still warm and beautiful. Schools in Panama are also out from Christmas until early March, so it makes it possible for youth in that country to attend WYD while on break.
How much will it cost?
Costs are anticipated to be somewhere between $2,500 – $3,000 per person. Click here for the World Youth Day Parish Packet.
