Students from St. Brendan Catholic School in Ormond Beach take part in a prayer service on Dec. 8, the first day of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy as declared by Pope Francis. The seventh graders were asked to think about the times when they were unmerciful to others. They listed these acknowledgements on paper and the notes were placed in a box. This box was sealed and buried in the school’s Prayer Garden behind the Cross of Christ. In unison, the class recited the Pope’s special prayer penned for the Year of Mercy. The burial was to signify how God’s mercy takes away our sins and transgressions when we are truly sorry and allows us to live life anew. Courtesy photo.
