St. Mary Magdalen Students, Faculty Rally Around Alumnus

On Sept. 6, 2014, David Hill, a St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School alumnus, jumped into a crowded pool and woke up in a hospital.

David fractured his vertebrate and became paralyzed from the neck down. This was a tough time for David and his family, including his nephew Hunter, who is kindergarten at the school. Since his accident, friends and family have been raising money for David’s treatments and medical care. In an act of solidarity, the faculty at St. Mary Magdalen held a bake sale, and the proceeds were donated to David.

In David’s honor, eighth grader Jessica wrote the following poem:

I haven’t met you once before;
I know your name but not much more.
Though this is, I assure you,
I am always praying for you.

I pray for you every night,
While kneeling down at my bed side.
When I lay my head to rest,
For you I send God a request:
That you will never stop hoping, rejoicing, or dreaming,
And always keep loving, enjoying, believing.

Don’t let any limitations,
Limit goals or expectations.
Never give up, never surrender.
If ever discouraged just remember:

I haven’t met you once before;
I know your name but not much more.
Though this is, I assure you,
I am always praying for you.
