Upon the arrival of Hurricane Nicole, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for the Diocese of Orlando met to strategically plan best locations for emergency supplies like water, tarps, and Meals Ready to Eat (MRE’s) throughout central Florida.

Deacon Wilmar Rojas, Director of Operations for Catholic Charities of Central Florida, said they “distributed close to 12,000 MREs and close to 2,000 gallons of water at 8 different sites throughout 4 counties.”

“Within 24 hours of Hurricane Nicole, we delivered additional emergency supplies to Daytona Beach and Deltona and have scheduled drops in Marion County,” added Deacon Rojas. “Coming off the heels of Hurricane Ian, we were in a good position with supplies and processes to be proactive and respond quickly.”

Catholic Charities of Central Florida works with state partners and local organizations including St. Vincent De Paul, Knights of Columbus, Second Harvest Food Bank, United HealthCare, and Farm Share to receive and distribute disaster relief supplies.
