San Damiano Senior Day-The Great Relics of the Catholic Church, September 12

Did you know that the emperor Constantine sent his mother Helen to the Holy Land in 326 to preserve the sites named in scripture and to collect items left by Jesus and his family and His followers? These items made their way throughout Europe and were fundamental in the development of the great basilicas and cathedrals. For example the crown of thorns is housed in Notre Dame in Paris. The garment Mary was wearing in Bethlehem at the birth of Our Lord is in the Cathedral of Chartres in France. Many have heard of the pilgrims who have made the Camino walk in Spain to venerate the relics of Saint James. The spread of Christianity throughout the ages is very much linked to the incredible stories of the great relics and how they connect us to our roots. Come hear from Deacon Jerry Hempstead and his journey to discover the Great Relics of the Church and the graces contained in their memories. $20, includes breakfast, lunch and Mass. This retreat offers both spiritual and practical tools opening us to God’s freedom and a peace that surpasses all understanding. As part of the retreat experience, we will have licensed mental health therapists on site. You will have the opportunity to listen to and speak to these therapists throughout the weekend. Many of these ideas are based on descriptions of witnesses who claim to have seen Mary like the three children in Fatima, Bernadette of Lourdes, and Sister Saint Catherine Laboure in Paris. But we also have images Mary herself presented like the Guadalupe of Mexico and Our Lady of the Pillar in Zaragoza, Spain. But did you know we have images of Mary created by Saint Luke while he was in the presence of the Blessed Mother?
