Catholic Schools Week is an annual tradition that started in 1974 in order to celebrate Catholic Education. This year it was from January 27 to February 2. It is the most anticipated week in Catholic schools especially at Sacred Heart Catholic School in New Smyrna Beach. Many activities and fun surprises were lined up throughout the week.

This school year, Sacred Heart students and teachers enjoyed dress down days based on daily themes. Each day was different and exciting such as wearing mismatched attire, clothing representing favorite sports teams, and superhero costumes based on the school’s superhero theme for this school year. Father Lopez Catholic High School led a pep rally as well.

Guest speaker “Omega Man” came to give a talk on anti-bullying and believing in one’s self. When young students were interviewed and asked what they thought of Catholic School’s Week, Carson L., a fifth-grader said, “It was fun, especially because we do different things each day and we do not have homework!”

Catholic Schools Week or not, the joy and blessings of a Catholic education are experienced by students on a daily basis. It is a happy, faith-filled life, in a healthy academic environment with supportive teachers and parents.
